Soul Treats! - Soul music blog by Soulville UA

What it is.

Soultreats is Soulville U-A´s music blog. It´s updated several times a week with a new soulful record. It is our chance to spotlight the artists and record labels that made the music but rarely the charts.
It´s a celebration!

The legacy.
If you are, know or have any information about the artists, labels or musicians etc. that are mentioned in these pages, please share it with us by sending an email to: info@soultreats.se

Do not use the comment button for this since there is no way for me, for now, to know which additions have been commented on. Help us be as detailed as we possibly can in our description of this wonderful music.

Thanks in advance.

Winfield Parker - I Wanna Be With You - P&L

70s SoulPosted by Martin Wed, May 26, 2010 07:41:35

Born in Cooksville Maryland, Parker did not have the classic musical upbringing that so many of 60s and 70s soul artists had, which begins with singing in church and high school groups. In fact he did not enter the music world until he was around 16 years old and then ít was as a saxophone player. After having played with some local groups Parker was signed to Little Richard´s band and toured with them for a couple of years. When he returned to Maryland again he started singing as well and was signed to Rufus Mitchell´s Ru-Jac records out of Baltimore. His first 45 came out in 1967 on the label and was also leased to Atco records, the songs were "What Do You Say" / "Sweet Little Girl". Several singles followed on a number of different labels, Arctic, Spring, GSF and also this on his own P&L records. A 1977 release which I believe is Parker´s last secular 45 to get released, as he is now involved with gospel music. Enjoy!
