Soul Treats! - Soul music blog by Soulville UA

What it is.

Soultreats is Soulville U-A´s music blog. It´s updated several times a week with a new soulful record. It is our chance to spotlight the artists and record labels that made the music but rarely the charts.
It´s a celebration!

The legacy.
If you are, know or have any information about the artists, labels or musicians etc. that are mentioned in these pages, please share it with us by sending an email to:

Do not use the comment button for this since there is no way for me, for now, to know which additions have been commented on. Help us be as detailed as we possibly can in our description of this wonderful music.

Thanks in advance.

The Festivals-You Got The Makings Of A Lover-Smash

60s SoulPosted by Martin Thu, February 19, 2009 11:07:45

The Festivals were Vaughn Price, Earl Moss (who also wrote this song) Woody Price and Leon Thomas. They released a few singles on Smash and Colossus but most of them were onlty local hits, at best. This was their most promoted single and also the one that got the most airplay. It came out in 1967 and is a fine midtempo song, problably their best work if you ask me.
The Festivals covered The Originals "Green Grow The Liliacs" in 1972 and had it released on Motown records but the group never had any other releases on any of Motowns labels, but there might be some other recorded material in the vaults there waiting to see the light of day. The groups final record came out on Lo Lo records around 1973-74 and sank without a trace.
The group did have a go at it, and a good one at that but things just never seemed to materialise for them and the broke up in the mid seventies. Have a listen to their finest hour.
