Soul Treats! - Soul music blog by Soulville UA

What it is.

Soultreats is Soulville U-A´s music blog. It´s updated several times a week with a new soulful record. It is our chance to spotlight the artists and record labels that made the music but rarely the charts.
It´s a celebration!

The legacy.
If you are, know or have any information about the artists, labels or musicians etc. that are mentioned in these pages, please share it with us by sending an email to:

Do not use the comment button for this since there is no way for me, for now, to know which additions have been commented on. Help us be as detailed as we possibly can in our description of this wonderful music.

Thanks in advance.

Pep Brown -Are You Leaving Me - Lava

70s SoulPosted by Martin Tue, April 21, 2009 09:56:52

Arthur Lee "Pep" Brown was born in Macon, GA and has stayed through to his southern roots throughout his musical career. This wonderful double-sider from 1971 is no exception. Owing much to stars like Al Green (who wrote and recorded this in his own right) and Otis Redding in his style, Brown has a distinctive enough voice to be recognized worldwide by fans as a fine deep soul singer. Sadly though he only got the chance to showcase himself on a few recordings, two for the Lava label and another two for Polydor records. He did cut a couple of tracks on the Walden label in the eighties (named after his longtime associate in music Alan Walden), but I haven´t heard any of that material.
